Applying and TEFL Certification

Hello. I am a certified elementary school teacher of 9 years in the US and am interested in teaching English abroad for the 2016-2017 school year. When should I apply for a 2016-2017 position? Also, I am currently certified to teach and have taught ESL in my current state and would like to know how the TEFL certification process works. Do I need to obtain the TEFL certification before applying for a position?

    Hi Crystal, welcome to the Teach Away Community. These teaching positions will be trickling in starting in October and November, so please check our job boards then! If you are licensed to teach in your state with ESL teaching experience, you are already in a very good position to teach English abroad. Of course, the TEFL certificate could give you an upper hand when applying, if you're already considering it. Hope that answers your question.     I am a Mechanical Engineering Graduate and also completed my M.Tech. and having the 3 years teaching experience at the engineering college in India. I want to know what kind of certificates and licences are required to join the teaching profession in abroad.
    please tell me in detail so that i can proceed as early as possible for the same.
