Good Morning,

I was wondering if you can help answer some questions regarding my husband's employability teaching ESL in the UAE.  He has his BA and is currently taking the TOEFL through the U of T.  He doesn't have any formal teaching training or ESL teaching experience but has several years in mangerial roles, has trained and supervised many employees and we have hosted ESL students in our home for the past 8 years.  If I am lucky enough to be hired at a school and he hasn't secured a position before we leave, is he able to come as a dependent of mine.  If so, how likely is it that he can gain employment once he has arrived?  Also, is it possible for foreigners with the proper credentials to tutor privately?

    Hi Erin, many of our positions allow for dependents. You can also take a look under the "Teaching Job Benefits" to see if there are benefits for dependents. Please remember to add your husband as a dependent under your teaching profile. As for him finding a teaching job, unfortunately all the positions we place for in the UAE require a teaching license. That being said, it shouldn't be that hard to find a private tutoring job while he is there, but visa-wise I'm not sure he can technically work if he is your dependent. I suggest that once you are in the interview process for your job, you can ask your placement coordinator and they can make some recommendations for what to do with regards to your husband's visa.
