Any other Europeans here on Teach Away?

Hi everybody,

My name is Jonas and I just graduated as a teacher in history and arts (bachelor) in Belgium and would love to teach abroad. Are there any other Europeans present?
Will I be able to get an abroad teaching opportunity through TeachAway?

I hope I will have the chance to prove my passion for teaching somewhere soon!

    Hi Jonas,
    Welcome to the Teach Away Community! We place Europeans and teachers from around the world all the time, so it is a possibility! I just checked out your profile and have a few tips for you to increase your chances of finding a job:
    1. Make sure your fill out your 'Certificates' section, if you have a teaching license from your Bachelors degree
    2. Ensure you apply for positions you qualify for -- some positions require a few years of *relevant* teaching experience. This means if you're applying for a Grade 8-10 science teaching position, for example, ensure you have experience teaching science to that particular age range.

    Hi Janice,

    Thank you for replying and the tips! I will be posting my Bachelors certificat soon.
    Maybe you can help me with one more thing?

    I only have my Bachelors degree, but a lot of jobs abroad demand a TEFL or ESOL certificate. Is it possible to find jobs without? I would like to get such a degree, but I don't really know the difference. Is TEFL better or equal to ESOL?
    Maybe you know some good schools or institutes near Belgium who give these courses?

    Hi Jonas, if you have a Bachelors in Education and are a certified teacher, then you will have a better chance at finding a job compared to those with only a Bachelor's degree for something such as Science or Arts. Then, you don't necessarily need a TEFL or ESOL certificate. If you are certified, you can filter the job category on our jobs board with the "Certified Teacher" filter.

    Unfortunately, I don't have any schools near Belgium that I can recommend, but we have a partnership with the University of Toronto in Canada, and they offer an online TEFL certificate -- the only only TEFL certificate offered by a Top 20 university in the world.
