Degree requirements in UAE

Hi All, I am considering teaching in the UAE from September 2017 , by which time I would have been a qualified teacher teaching mathematics in the UK for 2 years. My degree is in business studies and not in mathematics. Would not having a degree in mathematics prevent me from being employed as a mathematics teacher in the UAE? My PGCE is in mathematics, however, I have read conflicting information as to whether or not having a degree in mathemtics would prevent me from being employed in the UAE.

    Hi Leon;

    Welcome to the forum! It sounds like you have great experience and relevant experience will strengthen your application.

    In terms of UAE-specific positions, the general requirements across the board include(this may change over time):
    1. A Bachelor's degree, at minimum
    2. A current teaching license from your local government, relevant to whatever subject you wish to teach (for example, if you wanted to teach math, you will need a teaching license in math; a TESL or TEFL is not a teaching license)
    3. Two years of relevant teaching experience at the required teaching level (for example, if you were applying to teach high school level English, then you would need to have had at least two years of teaching high school English; elementary or middle school level would not be accepted)
    4. A TESL/TEFL certification is not required for all positions, but it would certainly make you a more competitive candidate
