Anybody here that successfully landed themselves a job? i am failing, all my jobs are just closed. Please share some tips...
HI Zakkiyah, it seems you have uploaded only one experience (2014) and have not uploaded any post-qualification experiences. Most of the positions you have applied to do require 2-3 years of post-qualification experience, so that may be the reason why your job applications are being closed.
I too, am applying for a lot of jobs and hearing nothing back? I am very confused as to why this is? Could anyone help? Thank you!!!
Hi Elizabeth, it seems you have less than 2 years of post-qualification teaching experience. Please make sure you double check the experience required under each job posting, as this may be the reason why your job applications are being closed.
I have filled up my application form as well, but i haven't heard any feedback from any schools.
Hello, can you please tell me how long I should wait to receive a contract after being interviewed and given an offer?
Hi Ronny, that timeframe really varies depending on the program, school, how many interviews they had, how many positions they're filling, and more. If you are already at the interview stage or have a pre-screen interview soon, you can ask your placement coordinator for a general timeline.
Hi Janice, I am from India. can you please tell me what qualifications are required for a job abroad and why are my applications closed?
Hi Swetha,
Thanks for your comment! Each job on the job board has different candidate criteria, so required qualifications really vary from position to position. I recommend carefully reading each job and only applying for ones you qualify for.
Applications can be marked as closed for a number of reasons: - You do not qualify for the position - The employer has filled the role - The employer has decided not to hire for the role
Are there closed applications for positions you feel you qualify for?
Best, Brett
Ronny, It took a month from the time of my in-person interview. I can tell you a lot of people are jumping ship from public to private or vice versa because they are giving up too soon, and really regretting it when the offer comes in that they originally wanted to have. I would definitely wait it out as there is a long time between now and the fall. I am happy that I stuck with it. Also, keep doing research and look at all of your options and be ready for plan "b". Rarely do we always get our first choice. From my experience with interviewing overseas they have to really work hard to make the right match.
Hi ! my name is Charmis , I applied several teaching available position . What may happen next after this online application and submission of credentials? Please help me understand the process . Thank you so much & More Power!
I uploaded my CV and completed my profile. After I applied. Was a direct to school job. The school recently contacted me (2.5 weeks after my application) and wants to do a skype interview. Waiting now for the date.
Hello! My name is Wana. May I know what does it mean by closed? Is it that I am not suitable for that job or my application wasn't completed?
Hi Wana, as far as I understood from previous posting 'closed' means that your application was not succesful. Possible reasons: not meeting the requirements or necessary experience, applying too late or many others. In the Blog-section is also a post about it.
Hello Sandra;
Thank you for your response! and you are absolutely correct, and the blog post is here : https://www.teachaway.com/2016/03/01/what-does-it-mean-if-my-application-closed
Just be persistent . I ended up landing a job but I was very persistent. I sent Thank You and follow up emails in addition to emailing schools directly.
Hello Arielle;
Great advice and I might to that, to apply to positions that you meet the minimum requirements for and with that in mind apply to as many positions are you are interested in!
best, Shirin
Hello, I am fairly new on Teach Away and have sent out several applications, but have not heard anything back. I am wondering what I should do differently for the next applications. I feel that I meet all of the expectations needed on each application, so I am not sure why I hear nothing back. Please help!
Hello Nomzamo;
Welcome to the forum! I had a quick look at your profile and you have mostly been applying to positions that you do not have relevant experience in. I recommend you to pay close attention to the minimum requirements and make sure that you are applying to appropriate positions
I am having the same issue. I look at the requirements and make sure that I am meeting all of them before I apply, but a few days later it says CLOSED. I have been trying hard but no luck.
Hello Lashanita;
I can see that you have accepted an offer! congratulations. Do not be discouraged by closed applications as the next one that you apply to might just be the one!
Best Shirin
Hi, I too need a job in this field, but i am not able to get response, so can any one help me & also give me suggestions to forward further details in my CV. Please help me also for the same.
Hi, I have sent several application but I haven't received any response, but well I will stick around since this is my first time.
Hello Busisiwe:
Welcome the forum! and we hope you find something that you are qualified for and interested in
Hello, I too have submitted several application. I have an array of experience and education that qualifies me. Can I get a status update on my application.
Hi all;
Just to give an overview on the application status: You may check on the status of your application by clicking the button labelled "My Apps" on your profile at www.teachaway.com.
If your application status is "closed" -- this indicates that your application was reviewed and did not meet the requirements of the job posting, or that the position had already been filled by another candidate. We encourage you to continue applying.
If your application meets the requirements of the job posting, our coordinators will be in touch with you within one to two weeks for a pre-screening. Due to the volume of applications we receive each day, we do not contact applicants if they are denied. Our advice is to keep an open mind, to apply, and to keep checking your application status on your profile.
Good luck all on your applications
Is it Teachaway that looks over all of the apps and decides if they are closed or under review? And how long does an app stay under review? Also, if it is a direct school, does Teachaway still stand by us throughout or not?
Hi Brooke;
As I had mentioned before, Applications for ‘Direct to School’ jobs are sent directly to the school that posted the vacancy. These applications are not reviewed by Teach Away's Placement Coordinators. Any communication regarding these positions takes place directly between applicants and the hiring institution. However, you will still be able to track your application status in your Teach Away Dashboard.
Good luck with your search and application
Hi to all, I am looking for a new job, Even I do not which criteria the organisation really needs, so could you guide me , whether I can apply to any where.
Hi Anjali;
Welcome to the forum! Our job board is your best resource to look for postings that interest you, and once you find something that sparks an interest, ensure that you meet the minimum requirements and start applying
Good luck with your search
Well I guess I can say that I landed my own job. I wasn't chosen for any of the jobs posted on Teach Away, however I did get a offer/contract for one of the "direct hire" postings.
Great to hear Jennifer. congratulations.
Hi...am also interested in teaching abroad ,posted more than three applications a week ago. I am still waiting for a response
Hello Seabi:
Welcome to the forum! Your best resource is your profile and seeing the application status. If your application meets the requirements of the job posting, our coordinators will be in touch with you within one to two weeks for a pre-screening for all non-direct to school positions. Due to the volume of applications we receive each day, we do not contact applicants if they are denied. Our advice is to keep an open mind, to apply, and to keep checking your application status on your profile.
Best, Shirin
Hi TA. I have ESL teaching experience at home and in China. I'm now in the UAE. The problem is I don't have a teaching license. Please any tips on how to become a licensed teacher? And is ESL teaching same all over the globe? Many teaching placement are emphasizing on native speakers. I'm from Cameroon where we speak English and French. Who is a native speaker and what guarantees a native speaker a good teacher. Thanks and cheers.
Hello Emmanuel:
Welcome to the forum. I recommend you to read this blog post on teaching license : https://www.teachaway.com/2016/06/24/what-teaching-license-or-teaching-credential, if you are looking to be licensed. Otherwise, your best chance of finding something you will qualify for here: https://www.teachaway.com/teaching-jobs-abroad?loc=All&jcat=ESL+Teaching&sub=All&lvl=All
I applied last Wednesday and got the response for the telephone interview for this week same day in a matter of few hours ,my question is on questions to expect when called and to motivate those who are losing hope to keep on hoping for a positive answer for every application you fill in
Hello;
Welcome to the forum! If you are looking for tips have a look here : https://www.teachaway.com/teach-abroad/interview-tips-techniques. And for those who are feeling a little discouraged, I recommend to keep an open mind and apply to as many jobs as they qualify for!
Hi All,
I have been offered a post in the UAE. I applied, phone interview went ok. A few weeks later I was invited to the face-to-face interview in London which happened this week. I didn't think it went that well but I have been offered a position teaching Maths.
If anyone is going for Maths btw - the test is mainly A-Level Pure maths. Quite tricky, a lot of calculus and advanced functions.
Good luck!
Ian.
Hello Ian;
Congratulations on your offer! We wish you the best on you teach abroad adventure
hi
I recently went for my in person interview. Just would like to know do you get a reply whether you get a job or not? And how long is an estimated time to hear back from them?
Hi,
At the interview they told me I would know via the teaching agency I was with within 7-10 days, but I actually knew in 3.
Thanks,
Hello Zaheera;
Congratulations on completing your interview! You will hear their feedback quite fast and I recommend you to get in touch with your placement coordinator if you have any additional questions, they are your best resource and will be able to give you some more insight
thanks so much for the info Ian. Hopefully I'll have a positive response soon.
Hi! I have applied to different institutions already. I am still waiting for a positive result.
All that I have applied for is Direct and I had many interviews last year and offered all over the world. I chose a school in China and I am very happy here. I have now applied for many institutions for next school year here since Mar. 5 and I have had 2 interviews so far on email and Skype and I have two this evening on Skype. I will be choosing which is best for my family. I knew this time what to ask about that I did not know until I got here, lol. Teachaway postings are great and will only use Teachaway to find jobs from. I think that credentials being posted are the most important and the CV to explain what your experience is. Good Luck to everyone and Congratulations on the others who have landed a job!
Brooke, it's so great to hear about your experience and we are so happy to hear that Teach Away has been your goto website for teaching positions abroad!
Keep us posted on your journey, we love hearing from all of our teachers. feel free to send us an email to info@teachaway.com if you'd like to share your experience with us more Best, Shirin
I know your post is over a year old, but I figure it's worth a shot to try this...
You mentioned, "I knew this time what to ask about that I did not know until I got here". That is a powerful statement and I hope to learn from your experience. From that I have two questions for you:
1. What would you say are the top 3 pros and cons of working where you have worked? 2. What is something you know now that you wish you would have known before you took your first job?
If you are reading this and have any insightful input I would greatly appreciate you sharing!
Respectfully, Steven

I just started the process and would love get any recommendations possible. So far, it seems, I need to have patience and check my dashboard. I initially listed my start date as 2018, but it was recommended that I get started and GO for it. So, I updated to 2017. Congrats to all who have interviewed are are on their way.
Hello Willa;
Welcome to the forum! and yes, apply to as many positions that interest you and you qualify for, we hope you are successful in your applications
Hello. I have applied and was wondering how long the whole process takes. My status under application says there are no applications under review. How long does it take for an application to be under review?
Hello Chokoe:
You may check on the status of your application by clicking the button labelled "My Applications" on your profile for all non-direct to school positions at www.teachaway.com. If the position is direct-to-school, the schools themselves will be in touch if you are selected for an initial interview
If your application status is "closed" -- this indicates that your application was reviewed and did not meet the requirements of the job posting, that the position had already been filled by another candidate or that the school decided not to move forward with your application. We encourage you to continue applying.
Hello,
I have been applying for jobs on here for roughly about a month. And just like Chokoe, my status says that there are no applications under review. So I am curious to what I am possibly lacking as well as how long it takes for the average person with my experience to see their application unde review or to get an interview of some sort?
Hello Alejandro;
Thank you for your message here! Your application status is accessible through your dashboard for all non direct-to-school positions. If you are selected for an initial interview, then one of our placement coordinators will be in touch with you to schedule the interview. For all direct to school positions, the schools themselves will contact you if you are selected. Due to the volume of applications we receive every day, you will not be contacted if you are not successful in your applications
I recommend you to keep an open mind and apply to the positions that you are interested in ! Good luck with your applications Best, Shirin
Hi there, if i apply to jobs that welcome newly qualified teachers without a lot of experience are my chances still slim with regards to getting a job? also, does it help if we apply here via teachaway & the actual schools website?
Hello Attiya:
Welcome to the forum! We certainly do have positions available for those with less experience, I recommend you to keep an eye on the website and check on the minimum requirements for years of experience. For those that are not listed, candidates with no or less experience are welcome to apply!
Good luck with your search Best, Shirin
I've had the same problems. I have applied to numerous positions for over a year and each and every application resulted as "Closed" despite my experience and matching the qualifications. I'm going to try one more time, but if I get the same results then I am going to have to try another program.
Hello Collett:
Welcome to the forum! I had a quick look at your profile and can see that you have mostly applied to positions in the UAE, these tend to be more competitive than the other locations. My recommendation to you is to keep an open mind, apply to the positions that you are interested in and we hope the next one you apply for you are successful in
I have also applied for positions on this website but never had a come back for interview and the consultants on this website don't give feedback on whether our CVs and experience are applicable to the job or not.
Hello Tanzeem:
Welcome to the forum! I had a quick look at your profile and you have been applying to certified teaching positions and you are an ESL teacher. The positions you will qualify for will be ESL teaching positions. You can find these positions here: https://www.teachaway.com/teaching-jobs-abroad?loc=All&jcat=ESL+Teaching&sub=All&lvl=All
Good luck with your future applications Best, Shirin
I have applied to a lot of job but all I am seeing is submitted even though some employment dates have passed. Can you tell me what is going here? please. Thank you
Hi Shirin
I have a Post Graduate in Education and I am certified teacher with my country which is a SACE certificate.
I am a Graduate with a Bachelors Degree and was wondering if that is too basic to land a job?
Hello Lauren:
Typically, to teach abroad, you will need some teaching qualifications under your belt!
To start, as a minimum to teach English in a foreign country, the most basic requirements are a bachelor’s degree in any subject area and a TEFL or other ESL certification , for all TELF positions visit here : https://www.teachaway.com/tefl-jobs If you have a bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, a TEFL certificate AND you have a teaching license valid to be a teacher in your home country, then you qualify for certified or licensed teacher positions, teaching your subjects to students anywhere from Kindergarten to Grade 12 : https://www.teachaway.com/licensed-teacher-programs If you have a bachelor’s degree, a TEFL or other ESL certifications, a teaching license AND a graduate degree you could be qualified for leadership and administrative positions such as a Principal, Vice Principal, Counselor, etc. As a teacher in this category, you can ofcourse also apply for certified teacher or ESL instructor positions - you will have many options : https://www.teachaway.com/school-administrator-jobs
That being said, I would recommend you to keep an open mind, keep an eye on the job board and find something that interests you and you qualify for, there are many opportunities available and requirements can vary from position to position. What qualifications do I need to teach abroad? (https://www.teachaway.com/2016/06/16/what-qualifications-do-i-need-teach-english-abroad)
I just signed up in this website and completed my profile but everytime i try to apply for a job it says update your profile!! I just signed up and completed all the necessary steps what does that mean? PS: I don't have a teaching licence nor an TEFL certificate but i have a master degree in English Literature
thank you
Hello Yamanda:
Welcome to the forum! I had a quick look at your profile and it is incomplete. Make sure that you are adding your certifications, degrees and experience to your profile so that you can start applying to the positions available on our website
Hope this helps and good luck with your applications! Best, Shirin
I have been applying for quite a few positions but have heard nothing back. Can someone give my an idea of how this typically works as I am fairly new to this process.
Thanks in advance
HI.. I'm Jasmi. I just signed up to this website and try to find a job. Please kindly guide me as I am a firnmly new here. Thank you.
Actually, today I just an my first Skype interview which included a teaching demo for English in Beijing with BIEE (Beijing International Education Exchange). It was great. I was advised by the interviewer that she was very impressed and say that I put the needs of the students first and I will make a great addition to the team. I was told that I will not be able to get in for the September term as the visa process takes a few months, but I will be ready to go for the next term. She was very nice and also asked what were some of my concerns being that I was a first time teach abroad, and she addressed them as well. I was also told that I will be contacted by another member of her team with the next steps. So fingers crossed. I had another interview yesterday but had to turn it down as they did not sponsor dependents and I need to take my daughter with me.
Dear Charmaine, Did you ask them whether they would sponsor your dependents during the interview or through emailing? Thank you
Hi Donny, I ask both through email and in the interview. Actually when the interviewer asked what were some of my concerns and I told her about my daughter and schools for her in China, she reassured me that they do sponsor dependents again, and that there are many American schools for her to attend at the grade level (8th grade).
Char
I would like to know the process once you update your application and select several jobs. Please advise.
Hello Paulette :
Welcome to the forum! After you have applied to the positions that you are interested in and qualify for, it will be a bit of a waiting game! If you are selected to move forward with your applications you will be contacted for the initial interview
Good luck with your applications Best, Shirin
Thank you for the role you play in assisting us with securing worthwhile teaching opportunities in the various countries.
I am new to the platform, and I have made several applications thus far. I look forward to taking part in the Explore Program in China early next year in view of contributing towards meaningful personal development growth of individuals.
I will make contact with you should I have any questions about the recruitment process going forward.
Thank you, and have a blessed festive season!
Regards
I made the mistake of making a profile before my diploma came in. I had one offer for an interview, but the interview was pulled because I uploaded the diploma two days after the offer (when I could officially pick it up). I am also currently waiting for my teaching certification, would certification of a teaching program suffice for now?
Hello, I have applied for several positions but all are still in the submitted phase. Some have been that way for at least a month. Is this typical? I wondered also if maybe the issue was that my teacher certificate/training was not from the US, UK or Australia. Are there preferred countries for teacher certification?
