Teaching english in Japan

Hey there!

What are the chances of landing a TEFL (ESL) job in japan with no prior teaching experience?

I have a Bachelors degree in Business administration, and am quite fluent in english, but not from a native english speaking country.

    I guess I should have mentioned I'm planning on doing the online TEFL 120 hr course. But I guess then the question would be, is that enough to get hired as an English teacher ,either in Japan or Korea?. No point in doing the course if experience is a criteria. Not to mention the course fee is a tad bit steep,but totally worth it if I can land a job.

    Hi Ashwin, it seems we only have one position in Japan that accepts ESL Instructors: https://www.teachaway.com/teaching-jobs-abroad/english-instructor-adult-learners-gaba-corporation-japan-0

    If you have a Bachelor's degree as well as a TEFL Certificate, then you would have the education requirements for it. This job currently does not require teaching experience.

    Thanks for that. I've had mixed responses about teaching english in Japan. Mostly from American VLoggers/youtubers living in Japan. Some good some scary ...some ok ;)
    Anyhow's thanks again i guess I'll have to give it some serious thought as I'm also in the process of applying for a masters degree in the U.S.(MBA)

    Hi Janice

    I am Bachelor of commerce graduate in Human resources and Supply chain management. I have been looking through available jobs on the site. I am specifically looking for teaching roles in Kyoto, Japan.
    I want to do a TEFL although I have strong training/ teaching experience in corporate.

    Any tips for me?
