Hi everyone
I have just accepted a position in Qatar and was hoping to meet some others that will be starting in Aug.
I am travelling from Australia with my family.
kind regards
Belinda
Hi Belinda,
Me and my sister have also applied for a position in Qatar. We are still waiting to hear back for a potential interview. Please share your experiences about the process.
Best Wishes, Lubna
Hi Lubna
For me it was all completed remotely either telephone or online because of my location. I first completed the screening interview with teachaway by telephone. Then I completed a video session of pre recorded interview question that I had to video my response. I did not know what the questions were before hand. I then need to chase up my referees to complete the reference check. Finally an invitation to a Skype interview with a panel of three people from the school (director, head of school, stake holder) that went for 40mins. In between each stage was some waiting particularly for an invite to an interview. But then my offer only took a week to come through. What position have you both applied for?
Kia ora Belinda, and good on ya mate! I applied for a post last night (9.00pm New Zealand time) and nothing has come through yet. Congrats on your posting. A question for you: Once I've pressed/clicked the apply button how long normally does it take before a response comes through?
Ngā mihi
Les
Hi Les It was a few weeks between applying for a position and starting the process. But I'm not sure if there is a correlation between the length of time that the position has been advertised, applying for a position and the closing date of the position. For example the position may have been advertised for sometime before I applied so it closed just after my application of high may be the reason for the few weeks I needed to await. Good luck Les
Hey Belina, Thank you for your swift response! Me and my sister have applied for a position in an Elementary school. We have both passed the phone interview stage and the video screening. We are waiting to hear back from the school for a Skype interview. It's been about 3-4 weeks now. Is that normal? This will be our first time teaching abroad. Congratulations! Lubna
Congratulations to you both. My process was fairly quick but I think that is because the positions closed just after I had applied. So from video screening to Skype interview was about two weeks. Then from interview to offer was one week, then I was given four days to decide to take the offer or not. Your Skype interview may be very soon. However, just keep in mind this was my experience and it is also my first time teaching over seas. This process my be quicker or slower for others. I would love to hear how you both go. Good luck Belinda
Thanks for your feedback Belinda! It was early March was when I was told I passed the video screening. Will keep you updated once if I hear anything. How was the Skype interview?
It was a bit of a nervous time but the panel was really nice. I have the school director, head of department, and curricular leader each asked several questions. We did have some technical issues and it resulted in the interview being conducted using my personal Skype address. They did start with the video on then turned it off. Total interview time 30-40mins.
Hi all,
It seems that with the number of jobs spec. in the UAE, at times there doesn't seem to be a recognisable pattern to follow from once the application has gone through from our end. I think we all need to accept that they are detailing with multiple applications and multi-musings of people for fit. Having read a few posts in these forums, some comrades are feeling a bit aloof due to the duration of the process (myself included) but we need to accept and have empathy with and accept that unlike here in New Zealand, we deal with a dozen or so applicants, they must be dealing with hundreds. Think back when you've had to mark and assess student work for a task or assessment. For a class of 20-24 we are talking about saying good-bye to your weekends and some. Appreciate a hundred or more applications, appreciate the similarities and differences, appreciate teaching experience and subjects taught, appreciate martial status and children. They have to consider changing quite significantly someones life and educational futures, this I would say is why it takes so l-o-n-g.
Hi Belinda, I have just accepted a teaching job at AIA, Doha starting in August too. I am very excited and also nervous as I will be coming out on my own.

Hi Natalie,
Congratulations! You must be really excited. That is the school that my application has been forwarded to. How long did it take to hear back from them about an interview?
Lubna
Hi Lubna,
Thank you so much! Yes I am super excited! It took 2 weeks. I wish you the very best of luck and keep me posted!! How long have you been waiting?
It was great to read your chats! I've applied to Doha still not heard anything but it has only been over 2 weeks!
Teachers who have been placed with us for August 2016 start dates should receive a follow up email from their placement coordinators within this week. We have a FB group set up for teachers to connect with each other before heading to Qatar :)
If we are hired through a direct to schools job listing, will the FB group be available to us as well?
Where can I find the FB group please?
Thank you, Natalie :)
Hello All,
I am new to the site. I was reading through the forum and am very excited for everyone who have received a teaching job abroad. I've just applied for a teaching position in Doha, Qatar and also in China. I am excited and nervous about the whole process! Does anyone have any pointers for me? What exactly are they looking for in a teacher? If anyone would like to give me some encouragement, please feel free to do so? Thank you so much!
Hi everyone,
I'm new in TeachAbroad also applying for Qatar, I am from Mexico. Reading your posts I was wondering if the accepted ones could tell us what kind of questions do they make during the interview???
Thanks a lot!
Hi Mariana
Interview questions included.. 1) how do you incorporate family into your classroom? 2) why did you decide to apply for a position in Qatar? 3) describe the look and sound of your classroom? 4) how do you support sustainability in your classroom? 5) how do you deal with conflict in your classroom
Those are the ones I can remember. Best of luck
