Question about 'teaching couple' and 'dependents'

Hi there,

I'm a qualified TEFL teacher looking to teach English abroad from next year onwards (ideally in Japan) and am engaged to someone who is in the process of studying to become a TEFL teacher.  I'm uncertain though as to how I should now fill in my account details.  Should I list my fiancee as a teaching partner when their course isn't completed yet?  Should I list them as a dependant when ideally they would be getting work wherever we arrive shortly afterwards (teaching or otherwise).  Will listing them as a dependant now hurt my chances of getting a position?  Clarification and advice would be much appreciated.

    Hi Nicholas,

    Welcome to the Teach Away Community! Just to clarify, are you both looking to teach? If so, you will both have to create two separate teacher accounts and separately apply to either the same job postings or the postings in the same area. Also, please add each other as dependents on your accounts as well.

    Hi Janice,

    Thankyou for your reply. We will both be looking to teach, so I will suggest my fiancée makes an account once the training is complete. In the meantime I will add a dependant to my account.
