what is the most effective rout to take?

Hi everyone

I am a degree trained Early Childhood teacher living in Jamaica who would love to get the opportunity to teach aboard but need help as to the best rout to take. Which country is best to teach in ? Seeing that I am from a different country and culture will there be any help for me? Do I need to do a English certification course? In short how does this process  work and are there any time lines?

    @Jasmin/Jim: Hi there! The decision to which country you should teach in really depends on yourself! We have resources under the "Teach Abroad" tab on the top left bar to help you decide. If you are a certified teacher and have relevant teaching experience, this will definitely open more doors for you and you won't necessarily need an English certification course. For certified teaching positions, teachers usually fly out to teach in September and January. We post new jobs on our jobs board frequently, so please check back to find positions you're interested in.

    Thanks Janice for your quick response. I did my Degree at Shortwood Teachers' College in Jamaica. Do you consider this to make me a certified teacher?

    Hi Jasmin,

    I can't tell you 100% but according to this website: https://www.wes.org/ca/wedb/jamaica/jmedov.htm
    "Teachers working at the elementary level and at the lower level of secondary schools attend teacher-training programmes of three years in duration. These programmes are offered at teacher training colleges and admission in normally based on the CSEC. Most teachers employed to teach in secondary schools complete bachelor’s degree programmes in the School of Education at the University of the West Indies."

    If you have completed either of these, depending on what grade level you are interested in teaching in, you should be good to go.
